Entrance to Dragon-i

This is what you would see before you enter Dragon-i. The bigger four chinese characters written on the left side of the sign board reads "Long de chuan ren". If I may translate it to English, it would means the descendent of dragon. On the right hand side, the smaller chinese characters read "La mien xiao long pao" (i.e., literally means "pull noodle small dragon bun"??).

Here’s a serviette in nice red packet which has the same writting as those you see at the entrance.

Interiors of the restaurant. Nice deco, very oriental with black and red theme and writings of chinese characters on the wall.

Ping ma yong (i.e., terra cotta)

Stewed Beef La Mien in Soup. The big chunks of lean beef was not tender so the meat texture was kinda hard when you chew on it. I was hoping for the meat to be very tender, like it could simply melt in your mouth instead of the teeth-abusing, rough and dry texture. Usually, stewed beef that are very tender would consist of beef that has some layer of fats to achieve that tenderness. So on the positive side, lean beef is less fattenning and would be more appealing to those who are health-conscious. The broth was tasty, very much to my liking.

The Shanghai Pork Rib La Mien comes with a generous serving of pork chop which was crispy yet juicy and well marinated. The noodle was a  bit soggy though and the soup was those plain soup "ching tong". No complains on the pork chop but I was hoping for the noodle to have a richer texture, like very QQ (springy) since it’s hand-made.

The La Mien with fried chicken taste pretty much the same as the pork chop noodle cause it was served with the same type of noodles. But personally I would prefer the pork chop over the chicken chop simply because I prefer to eat pork.

Cool black uniform with golden dragon embroidery, a bit like "hak sie wui" (chinese gangster).

The open kitchen concept next to the entrance displays how the chefs prepare the xiao long pao, steam dumpling with soup/gravy in it.

Overall, I would say that you can pop by if you are shopping around in 1U and suddenly feel like having some decent chinese food to fill your tummy. Other than that, I personally will not purposely make a trip to 1U just to savour their food cause I can definitely get much tastier and cheaper chinese food outside. However, the xiao long pao is definitely worth a try since it’s something you don’t get like everywhere and anywhere.

O.U.G. Beef Ball Noodle

Apparently this beef ball noodle in O.U.G. (Overseas Union Garden, located along Old Klang Road) is very famous or well known, i’ve been eating this for over 5 years on and off for lunch and i don’t know… wall So today i decided to do it justice by taking a few pics and telling you about the beef ball noodles in this place.

Souled Out Collection

While digging though our old photos, we came across some Souled Out pics from 2002 and 2004. Since we’ve visited this place at least once a year, I can confidantly say that we enjoyed the experience there. So here are some of the photos + comments from Chloe…

Souled Out July 2002

Now this is challenging ‘coz first of all, this wasn’t my food, it was another friend, Ferdinand’s dinner. Secondly, it was taken a few years back in Souled Out during a uni-mates gathering. Thirdly, the picture isn’t self-explanatory enough for me to recall anything. And fourthy, … err… actually there’s not fourthly. ;p

Genki Sushi

Granted that this is not a special restaurant or even one that serves special food to write a review on, but I figured there must be some lost souls out there who have never ever step foot into this place and wondering what the big fuss is about or why the heck are all those people queuing up outside this place. So if you are one of them (the lost souls that is), then this is for you *smiles*.

Imagine this: you are doing some shopping (or window shopping as most of us do before the pay cheque comes in at the end of month ( ) and suddenly you felt this intense craving for some fast and cheap Japanese food. What do you do? And who do you call? G.H.O.S.T.B.U.S.T.E.R.S. of course, yeaahh … Love that show, I still remember how Slimey (the shapeless green ghost with the long red tongue) used to leave all that green goo everywhere he (or was it a ‘she’?) goes *eww …* and had a crush on that cute ghostbuster Peter (it’s a she then). Anyway, anyway, sorry for the little digression … back to the review. So WHAT DO YOU DO? Answer: you can either head over to Sushi King (SK) or Genki Sushi (GS).

Pulau Ketam Steamboat

T’was a cold and rainy Friday night when the fab four (me, Chloe, Wilfred and our M.I.A. chick, Lina) venture out to the furthest corner of Kuala Lumpur for some grub. Longing for something hot and spicy to fill our bellies and warm our souls, we decided what could be better than steamboat to do the job, right?

Our quest led us to Kepong, the so-called “steamboat haven”. It’s a haven indeed for steamboat lovers as we find ourselves facing rows and rows of restaurants all serving the same thing. We finally settled for this place called Pulau Ketam Steamboat Restaurant *phew*. Not sure why it is named Pulau Ketam when the restaurant is not in Pulau Ketam also *scratch head*. Anyway, when we reached the restaurant, a man was standing in the middle of the road ushering us to park in this empty space directly opposite the restaurant (woohoo … free parking!! But the place a bit muddy, not good for girls wearing 3 inches heels :S). Since there was a slight drizzle, the man even offered umbrella-ring services to us when we got out of the car. So nice yea?

Tanjung Bungah at SS2

Another curry fish head review? Not again!!

Ok, ok. I know. We’ve done a review on a curry fish head restaurant (Assam Fish Head at Long Khee) in Subang not too long ago. But the reason for this review was more because of the coffee spareribs. Initially when I heard Marianne mentioned about their coffee spareribs I was like "Wah seh, sounds like a very exotic dish hor. Never heard before leh." And later I found out from friends that this dish is not that uncommon. Thus I suddenly felt like I’m so ’sua ku’.

Anyway, the place is called Tanjung Bungah Curry Fish Head Restaurant. It’s located in SS2, same row of shop as Cheow Yang (SS2’s very famous hawker restaurant). For those of you who are not familiar with SS2, sorry lor. I’m too lazy to explain so much P

There were Wilfy, Marianne, Thomas, Samson and me. You know what? Marianne actually arrived earlier than me. *gasp in disbelieve* She has finally shed the crown of Miss-Forever-Late for once after being crowned from since don’t know when. And I thought so till she was late again during our next outing. *tsk* *tsk* *tsk*

All right, enough of bashing on Marianne. Now, let’s get excited about the food! Let me just go through it dish by dish.

After spending half a day working on C&P *pat on back*, we headed to a nearby restaurant in the vicinity of Subang Jaya for a well deserved dinner. This restaurant suggested by Chloe, specialises in assam fish head as evident by the picture of a fish head nestled snugly in a sea of reddish gravy in a claypot on its signboard (do they have a standard signboard for all restaurants that serve assam/curry fish head??).

We reached there a little after 7 and it was already quite packed with families having their Sunday night dinner. Although there were several other restaurants along the same row also packed with patrons, finding a parking space was a breeze.

Besides the famous ruins of what is remained of the A’Famosa Fort, Malacca is also famous for its chicken rice balls. Ask around any of your friends who originates from Malacca and I am sure that they would be able to name their favourite chicken rice balls stall. This one I had was near the town centre and it’s along Jonker Street (or maybe a street or two away from it but it’s around there). It is a restaurant at the corner of the street that specialises in chicken rice balls as evident by the huge cloth banner that screams "Malacca most famous chicken rice balls" *eyes rolling*. Yea yea yea, I know what some of you may be thinking right now: anything that advertises that outrightly is covering up for some inadequacies in their food. But heck, there was a queue of people lining up outside the shop waiting to get in, so how bad can it be right? So we wouldn’t be the only gullible ones tricked by the banner.

The interior of the restaurant is quite unique, it is reminiscent of those eateries in the olden day China such as those typically shown in the "Once upon a time in China" series. There were heavy-duty square wooden tables and matching stools. The walls were painted a bright shade of red, either a sign of prosperity for the shop owners or to match the colors of all the great building nearby. Once seated, we got down to the business of ordering. Being the newbie that we are to this, we asked for the waitress’s recommendations. She asked that we try their signature dish of assam fish to accompany the chicken rice that we would definitely be having (doh!). Being starved after a half day walking tour of all the historical buildings, we nodded our head in agreement.

Thai Express at The Curve

The plan that was not

As usual, the get together started off late (about 1 hour 30 minutes late wall ) we were supposed to meet at 11am in front of starbucks. Unfortunately Marianne (writer chick) had to go to the bank to settle some stuff first. Coincidentally, Chloe (manager chick) was waiting for Marianne to pick her up which left me (Wilfred : the pea) to sit at starbucks and update my blog regarding some interesting fact about starbucks.

The whole plan for today was supposed to take an hour or so to browse around The Curve (warning: lousy website ahead) and document their food offerings there, and then head of to a few of the choice restaurants and cafes to try out thier food and take a ton of pictures. Which leads me to the next problem… Chloe’s camera (the only camera there wall ) was having some vision problems, something about the CCD konk-ing out.

With little time left and a 0.3 megapixel camera phone (courtesy of me) we set off to just go for food and see what happens from there.
